Another Phoenix Suns season has come to a close, prematurely once more.  Time to debrief and recap how all 14 players currently on the team’s roster fared during the 2014/15 season.  This is The Good, the Bad and the Ugly on Jerel McNeal

2014/15 Phoenix Stats: 6 games, 6 mpg, 1.5 ppg, 0.5 rpg, 0.3 apg, 0.5 spg, 0.2 bpg, 0.8 topg, 3-11 FG

Contract Status: $981,348 for 15/16

The Good

– signed for the minimum
– very good D-League player
– known to be a standout defender
– can hit the 3
– provides the team point guard depth

The Bad

– will turn 28 in a couple of months
– no NBA experience outside of his brief run with the Suns this past season
– not much upside

The Ugly

– shot horribly in limited minutes with the Suns
– turned the ball over twice as often as he recorded an assist

Conclusion

It was a bit of a surprise when the Suns decided to sign Jerel McNeal to a guaranteed contract for the 2015/16 season.  While he has been a good player in the D-League, he’s shown nothing on the NBA level at this point to indicate he’ll be anything more than practice fodder for the team next season.
